Bhaidooj is one of the important Indian festival that allows a sister to express her love and affection that she feels for her brother without any restraint. According to popular religious scriptures, the Lord of Death, Lord Yamraj, visits his sister who welcomes him by applying a “tilak” or vermillion mark on his forehead. The popular belief is that that anyone who has a tilak mark from his sister on this day will not be harmed or attacked by death or other such accidents. This is a festival that bonds brother and sister and tightens their affectionate relationship. Bhai Dooj is celebrated on the last day of Diwali. This is the fifth day celebration of the diwali festival celebrating the eternal love between brothers and sisters. Bhai means brother, and Dooj represents the two days after new moon, i.e., two days after Diwali in Kartik month of Hindu calendar. Just like Raksha Bandhan, bhai dooj is a festival of brothers and sisters.
